The Sebastiani Theatre is pleased to welcome Sonoma Ballet Conservatory for two matinee performances of The Snow Maiden, a Russian Wonder Tale of Love and Magic on Saturday and Sunday, February 11 and 12, at 1:00 p.m. This will be the second annual joint fundraiser to help the Sebastiani Theatre continue to offer the community a wide range of movie, musical, and theatre experiences for all ages.
Choreographed by Brooke Byrne of San Francisco’s Khadra International Dance Theatre, the ballet incorporates elements of Russian character dance and ethnic-inspired costumes. The classic folktale is Russia’s equivalent to The Nutcracker and is full of Winter-themed characters such as The Frost Fairy, The Ice Princess, The 4 Winds, and, of course, The Snow Maiden herself. Bring the whole family for a fantasy afternoon of dance that will chase away those post-Holiday blues!
Reprising the roles of The Snow Maiden and Lel, the Shepherd Boy, who loves her are Viridiana Martinez and Jamie Melendy. They will be joined by dozens of dancers from the Conservatory's elementary levels through advanced, including Angelica Griggs-Demmin and Natalie Anderson (The Frost Fairy and The Ice Princess); Olivia Cole, Elizabeth Eagles, Isabel Falls and Siobhan O'Reilly (The 4 Winds); and Natalie Baker and Anika Ljung (The Snow Queen and The Firebird). Audiences will also be enchanted by adorable Snow Drops and the other magical characters of in The Land of Snow.

ONE NIGHT IN PARIS -- A 1920’s Gypsy Jazz & Musette Show!
Join us at the Sebastiani Theatre for a magical evening of music, entertainment, and poetry on Sunday, February 13, at 7 :30 p.m., when northern California’s most significant gypsy jazz band musicians perform live on the classic Sebastiani Theatre stage for ONE NIGHT IN PARIS.
Musicians from the prominent gypsy jazz bands Rue Manouche, Jazz Hot, and Duo Gadgo play in the style of Gypsy Jazz or Gypsy Swing made famous by Jean "Django" Reinhardt in the 1930’s. Django Reinhardt is hailed as one of the greatest guitar players that ever lived, and was foremost among a group of Gypsy guitarists working in and around Paris in the 1930’s through the 1950’s. Many who praise his accomplishments as a guitarist overlook his roots in Gypsy culture and the musically fertile, polygot Paris of the 1920’s. Django Reinhardt and his companions used all these elements, along with American jazz, to create this new music, but the Gypsy heritage seems to be the most dominant ingredient. It is sophisticated, yet sentimental. Gypsy jazz -- with its sometimes flamboyant, sometimes melancholy guitar music -- is increasing in popularity around the world. Aficionados everywhere are forming bands, called Hot Clubs in honor of Django Reinhardt’s famous Quintet of the Hot Club of France.
Musicians to be featured in this enjoyable ONE NIGHT IN PARIS live concert are :
Michel Saga, the popular Rue Manouche’s lead vocal singer who will give a French wink to this unique show with his mysterious music box called an Orgue de Barbarie, an instrument from the 19 century! Rue Manouche is a Gypsy Jazz & Musette group founded in San Francisco in 2009 by the french blues singer and actor Michel Saga.
Jeff Magidson, (guitar) and Isabelle Fontaine (guitar and vocal) form Duo Gadjo, a band uniting two cultures. Jeff Magidson, originally from San Francisco, and Isabelle Fontaine, from France, have performed for the past fifteen years in the Bay Area.
Paul Mehling, (bass) the leader of HCSF and the Jazz Hot, discovered the music of Django Reinhardt and the Quintet of the Hot Club of France in grammar school. Le Jazz Hot and Paul Mehling, dubbed the godfather of American gypsy jazz, is a quartet from the Hot Club of San Francisco, still continuing the tradition of fine French Gypsy Jazz performed on string instruments.
Julian Smedley, (violin) living Berkeley, California, works as a jazz violinist with Le Jazz Hot, Rue Manouche and Duo Gadjo. He is also a music producer.
David Miotke, (accordion) after singing and playing piano as music director at Max’s Opera Cafe in San Francisco for five years, is currently freelancing and performing solo with groups in styles as Jazz Manouche.
Reserved seating tickets are $25 and can be purchased at the Sebastiani Theatre by calling 707/996-9756. Visa and MasterCard are accepted.

THE COMPLETE WORLD OF SPORTS (abridged)

In this merciless but affectionate satire, The Reduced Shakespeare company sets it comic sites on the lunacy of sports. The result is a tour-de-farce of vaudevillian physical comedy that will delight every non-sports fan in the family.

The bad boys of abridgement are back! So Get Ready! Get Set! LET THE GAMES BEGIN!
